MEKONG VILLA
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Year: 2024
Scope: Full design, Architecture/Interior/Landscape

This villa is designed to be a holiday house but aims to last as a retirement home. The client had a simple request: simplicity and sustainability. Every space has openings and windows to take advantage of tropical asian daylight, but not wide enough to retain heat. Bathrooms have high openable windows for healthy air exchange. The main character of the house is the exciting roofs of 3 levels that distinguish the main spaces: entrance area, resting area with a river view, and upper bedrooms.

Year: 2023-2025
Scope: Full design, Architecture/Interior/Landscape
Status: Construction Complete

The client has initiated a project to construct a farmhouse utilizing a modular structural system in the north of Phnom Penh. The site is an organic farm on the riverfront of Tonle Sap. The main scope is to house a small family of four: the parents and their two children. The house is meant to have wide openings to the outdoors and big shading from its roofs to protect from suburban heavy rain in the monsoon season and harsh sunlight in the dry season.

The design comes in 4 roof options for future build for staff-farmers working on-site. Those roofs include a traditional pitched roof, a clerestory roof, a pyramid hip roof, and a gable roof.

Niron House
Kandal, Cambodia
Year: 2020
Scope: R&D

The wood house was created with the purpose to encourage local wood crafting to adapt to modern living conditions in Cambodia. This project design is based on modular systems of repetitive elements of structure, walls, floors, doors, and windows that have standard units. These units help shorten and ease the production process with thought-out structural joinery of which is similar to Khmer traditional houses. The upgraded design supports this system which allows builders to accomplish easy and quick assembly.

Takhmau Holiday Home
Kandal, Cambodia
Client: Private
Year: 2022 Under construction
Scope: Design development

The task for this renovation was to revive the old traditional wooden home built in the late 90s into a modern family home to accommodate any members of the client’s family for holidays and weekend visits. All necessary spaces, thus, are expected to be arranged within the building such as a common area, dining and kitchen, storage room, technical space, bedrooms, and children’s play areas. The most vital requirement is to preserve the natural feeling that this home gave in the past: warmth. The conceptual approach of the design is focused on technical aspects of the wooden architecture.
